Promise Europe a locally made, low-carbon battery, sign huge supply contracts with carmakers who are also investors, and fund giant factories with debt and convertibles — but ramp the first factory too slowly, so costs ran at about 5.4x revenue, cash ran out, and the business ended in bankruptcy with its factories sold to Lyten.

## Caveats
- Northvolt was private; the annual report is company-prepared (IFRS, audited per the report). "Adjusted" measures are non-IFRS.
- The order book is contracted demand with flexible volumes, not revenue.
- Lyten's "$5B" is a book value claim, not the purchase price. The purchase price was not disclosed in sources used here.
- The trustee page cites "nearly 80 billion" of debt without naming a currency on the page; not used on the canvas.
